Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) - Sharing the India experience in control and major achievements
India is a vast country with a population of 148.88 million goats and 74.26 million sheep against a world population of 2.1 billion sheep and goats. In India, peste des petits ruminants (PPR) was first reported in 1987. On analysis of 18 case reports of PPR outbreaks from 1995 to 2019, it was observed that PPR features among the top ten diseases in small ruminants and stands first among viral diseases. Examination of the temporal and spatial distribution of PPR in India, including hotspots, has provided valuable information with which to develop policies on the prevention and control of PPR in different regions of India. The reported outbreaks have progressively declined in most of the 23 states in India due to the implementation of a strategic vaccination programme.

This webinar aims to share with other countries, India’s effort to eradicate PPR.
