Could Mr. Ba give examples of the tools he mentioned for mobilizing communities to lead a bottom-up approach for sustainable development? Thank you. Merci.

Thank you for the presentation on IPM FFS. Unfortunately, in Indonesia, the brown planthopper outbreaks returned in 2011-2012, then again in 2016-2017 under La Nina with intensive rainfalls and the persisting ill-wise use of pesticides. The sales of pesticides in the market has been increasing in the past decade, whereas the IPM FFSs learning decreased. The feature was not quite OK in reducing pesticides use, though the IPM FFSs alumni were individually persisting their IPM strategies in controlling pests/diseases. However, I am glad that the IPM FFSs were spread widely in various countries nowadays. Thanks for the FAO and the great work of Peter Kenmore and his team. Yunita.

Thank you Yunita, Great to see you here! indeed, continuing to train generation after generation is a huge challenge. Also, cadres and advisors in government services retire or move, and in no time, pesticide-based approach return, pushed by the market and lack of farmers training on the underlying mechanisms leading to pest outbreaks...

I had the privilege to visit SEWA some years ago and I was really amazed by their organization and their capacity to help women organize themselves thorugh collective action!

04:25:56
In Indonesia, IPM farmer training has declined, and FFS quality and true spirit has sometimes been eroded... but nonetheless inspiring to see that they are still a force and have inspired many, starting a global movement

Question to SEWA - do all the women members participate in consciousness raising participatory spaces or is that only reserved for leaders that you train?

It's good to hear about community level engagements and the Farmer Congresses. In this era of 'social distancing' due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, would be good to learn how communities are continuing to have such beneficial interactions? What roles do NGOs and actors such as FAO play in such settings?

Most valuable discussions, colleagues. To chime in, we may wish systematically explore so-called “Multi-Stakeholder Transformative Governance” approaches linking informal stakeholder engagement spaces with formal decision-making and governance processes. This can potentially bring transformational and lasting changes desired. If interested, recent work available here https://www.mdpi.com/2071-1050/12/23/9901 Thank you.
