Hello Daniel , we learn that in the last years EFSA invest in different studies regarding other mechanical vectors of the virus like flies , birds or dust , what can you tell us about this ?
Marko Maras

Montenegrin people are having one of largest percent for consuming pork meat per capita and there are a lot of small households that are having pigs, those one are unregistered producers. Mr Alcrudo gave a good advices but are there any additional advices on what are best way to keep this households aware and what are best advices to keep them safe? Also big issue would be the last crisis with rise of prices of pig food (concentrated food, grains, etc.) can affect on shutting down some farms and will arise illegal trade and import of pigs. We are small country and any potential case will affect a lot pig sector in our country.

Indeed, the role of backyard pigs is essential in the region, and biosecurity measures are essential. There are interesting FAO documents coming up on this subject.
Jean PERCHET

I think that in the current context of potential disease extension, preparation and strengthened surveillance are essential.

Question for Mark and Daniel : despite the lowest survivability of the virus in the hot period we could observe that the highest number of outbreaks is in the summer , there are other physiological factors that may predispose the animal to the virus in this period of the year?
Zilvinas Ilevicius, EU Commission, DG SANTE/G2
01:20:56
Hello, yes EU Commission is represented. Delegated Regulation (EU) 2020/687 Article 12 provides for the culling of pigs in affected establishment.
Zilvinas Ilevicius, EU Commission, DG SANTE/G2
01:21:26
Article 13 priovides for certain derogations (that could be granted by the competent authority).

Daniel Frydendal
01:49:07
No, they are provided with internal googles
Jean PERCHET
01:49:20
Are there specific requirements for the feed production?
Daniel Frydendal

EFSA Report:https://efsa.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.2903/j.efsa.2021.65725.1.3. Seasonality of African swine fever outbreaks and casesThere is a clear peak observed in the proportions of PCR-positive samples from domestic pigs between May and September in Lithuania, Poland and Romania.•The reason for the ASF seasonality and the different patterns observed in domestic pigs andwild boar requires further investigation.

I would like to stress everyone present with the following question coming out fro the actual socio-economical situation in Europe this days , and our Minister Of Agriculture declaration from yesterday evening who said : Romania killed last year for the control of the ASF 771000 pigs , 92 milion kg of pig meat: Do you consider that thermal treatment of the pigs in the infected farms should be adopted like an emergency measurement in Europe for the next period of time . Also taking into consideration the actual feed prices it is not feasible to keep pigs in restriction zones on the expense of the farmers and the states or EU should compensate the extra costs of the farmers ?
Marko Maras

Since there arent any infos on this presentations for Montenegro we would like to establish more connections on this topic. We are currently cooperating with FAO and EBRD in Montenegro but not on this topic. We have been involved in providing infos on ASF to our benefitiaries (farmers) in past. We would like to get involved more into providing this education, information and actions with stakeholders to create good measures in order to keep safe pig industry. We are pretty aware with all this infos that were provided. but its very important that we have educated farmers. As I mention earlier our farm sectors are already endangered with current crisis and if flu enter Montenegro we can expect collapse one of our main secotrs. Our to protected geographycal products are Njeguska and Montenegrin proscciuto and we dont want to lose our two most significant products on market. Thank you for all this presentations which will be translated and forwarded to our farmers.

This disbelief in the backyard sector seems to be reported in different countries, and is a major issue that needs to be addressed.
Marko Maras
02:38:36
That is one of biggest issues. People dont belive until it is late.

Without an available vaccine, the application of biosecurity measures is certainly the best way to prevent and control ASF. Related to ASF, as well as to other TADs, everything starts from an adequate legal basis. In the Republic of Serbia, the legislation is not harmonized with Regulation (EU) 2016/429 on transmissible animal diseases ("Animal Health Law") in March 2016.It is crucial to categorize farms into commercial and non-commercial farms in accordance with EU rules and to legally prescribe the minimum biosecurity measures that apply to them. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt adequate legislation in Serbia regarding biosecurity as soon as possible.
Dimitar Mihaylov
03:08:16
We should not forget that the main vector of ASF disease is still wild boars. By controlling the number of wild boars we will ensure the spread of disease will decrease in backyards and in commercial farms. The best example is Czech republic.
