World Food Forum – Transformative Research Challenge Young Scientific Roundtable
Description
Join us on Wednesday, 27 April from 4:00PM to 5:00PM CET for an engaging roundtable organized by the World Food Forum’s (WFF) Transformative Research Challenge (TRC).
The TRC is an international open call for submissions of research ideas that aims to inspire innovation in sustainable development to end hunger and transform our food systems.
This event aims to be different from classic webinars, as it will not include long presentations, but an engaging discussion on the key role youth in science must play to achieve agri-food systems transformation and ultimately zero hunger.
With a keynote speech by FAO’s Chief Economist Máximo Torero Cullen, closing remarks by FAO’s Chief Scientist Ismahane Elouafi and special guests from CGIAR and Agrifood 5 Alliance, this Young Scientific Rountable is not to be missed if you are a young or youthful researcher or university student.

She holds a water resources engineering degree from Al-Baath University – Syria (2002-2007), a master’s degree in environmental sciences and management from the Hashemite University – Jordan, and currently doing her Ph.D. in water resources management at IHE-Delft Institute for Water Education, funded by the Schlumberger Faculty for the Future Award for the academic years (2020-2021), and (2022-2023). She joined IWMI/Jordan in 2018, and her research focuses on water and food security and water accounting. She won the Transformative Research Challenge in 2021 based on her research on water use behavior in irrigated agriculture in Jordan’s highlands. Elliott Dossou-Yovo (@CGIAR) Dr. Elliott Dossou-Yovo works for Africa Rice Center as Agriculture and Climate Change Specialist. He completed his engineering degree in agriculture (2004 – 2009) and MSc in Natural Resources Management (2010 – 2011) from the University of Abomey-Calavi, Benin, and Ph.D. in Climate Change and Agriculture (2013 – 2016) from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. He joined AfricaRice in 2016. His research focuses on innovative water management systems for resilient rice-based systems in the face of climate change, mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, and diversification options to increase farmers' income, food and nutrition security, and enhance agroecosystems. Brunno da Silva Cerozi (@University of São Paulo / A5 Alliance) Dr. Brunno da Silva Cerozi is an Assistant Professor of Aquaculture in the College of Agriculture at the University of São Paulo. He holds a bachelor’s in Agronomy and a master’s in Animal Science, both received from the University of São Paulo. In 2016, he earned his Ph.D. in Soil, Water and Environmental Science from the University of Arizona in the United States where he studied integrated fish and plant production with a special interest on the dynamics of nutrient mineralization in aquaponic systems. Currently at the University of São Paulo, he teaches several aquaculture courses at the undergrad and graduate levels and continues his research in various topics of integrated agriculture-aquaculture production systems, also collaborating with studies involving fish nutrition and health. Dr. Cerozi is an enthusiast of sustainable farming and hopes that his research will encourage the spread of economically viable, environmentally sound, and socially just food production systems aroun Paige Kelly (@Cornell University/ A5 Alliance) Paige is interested in spatial inequality (community and rural/urban inequalities, poverty, and development issues), public policy, and social inequality and poverty. Her current research focuses on how local governments’ social policies affect inequality and poverty by race, rurality and gender in the United States. She has published on rural-urban disparities in voting and local governments’ capacity, economic development programs, and collaboration/competition. She has strong connections to the Rural Sociological Society, having served on their council (2017-2019), as a research interest group chair (2017-present), and on multiple committees (Programming, Awards, Ethics, and Diversity). She received her B.S. in Agronomy and Community & Environmental Sociology from University of Wisconsin-Madison, and M.S. and Ph.D. in Rural Sociology in the School of Environment and Natural Resources at The Ohio State University. Marie Zwetsloot (@Wageningen University / A5 Alliance) Marie Zwetsloot is a postdoctoral researcher at the Soil Biology Group of Wageningen University. She obtained her MSc in soil science and PhD in plant ecology from Cornell University. Her research focuses on plant-soil interactions in both natural and agricultural ecosystems. She recently received a Veni grant from the Dutch Science Organisation to unravel how plant species variation in root exudation profiles influences nutrient availability and soil organic matter dynamics. This will support her ultimate research ambition to determine how agriculture can utilize plant diversity to reduce agrochemical inputs and facilitate the provision of multiple ecosystem functions.
