Social Protection Dialogue Series - "Social Protection for Inclusive Climate Action"
The climate has changed and is continuing to change. Small scale farmers in developing countries are among those that least contribute to climate change, yet they are most negatively impacted by it. Enabling them to adapt to the changing climate is urgent and fundamental for poverty reduction and sustainable economic inclusion. However, only a minimal part of climate financing is being channeled to them.

Expanding access to social protection in rural areas is an important part of the solution, as it is critical to strengthen the capacities of small scale producers to transition towards more sustainable and diversified livelihoods. Yet financing and coverage are especially low: more than 50% of the global population does not have access to any social protection coverage and in Low Income Countries, 76.5% of the poorest rural households have no access to social protection.

This dialogue seeks to strengthen understanding of the role that social protection has on safeguarding inclusiveness of rural populations in climate action.
