Topic
Fostering Innovation through the UN Innovation Toolkit
Description
The United Nations Secretary-General has made innovation a priority, highlighting the need for the organisation as a whole to shift from “accidental” innovation to innovation “by design.” To support these efforts, he called for the development of the UN Innovation Toolkit - now hosted by the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC) - which provides actionable guidance on how to foster, scale, and accelerate innovation across the UN System.
An increased focus on this critical issue was reflected in the recent “Our Common Agenda” Report, which aims at accelerating the transformation of the UN over the next five years through the so-called "Quintet for Change”. Building on this process - focused on stronger capabilities for innovation; strategic foresight; behavioral science; data, and results - the UNSSC proposes the delivery of a Learning Event in collaboration with IFAD, UNWTO and Accenture Interactive to upgrade the knowledge, insight, and capacities of a new generation through the utilization and contextualization of the UN Innovation Toolkit.
