FAO and WFP, supported by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture are currently implementing a global project that is set to develop a methodology for supporting countries to set and implement nutrition standards for their school food programmes and policies. One of the main deliverables of this project is the creation of a school food global knowledge online hub that:
• enhances the dialogue around the need and potential of setting nutrition standards for school meals and other school food;
• allows the exchange of experiences and lessons learned in improving the quality of school food and food education between and within countries and stakeholders; and
• stimulates the involvement and participation of schoolchildren and adolescents in the process of improving the quality of their school food and food education.
The hub will serve as an exchange platform and database for various target groups including school staff, practitioners, policymakers, parliamentarians, youth, researchers, UN Agencies and international organizations, among others.
It is expected that this hub will be the main platform to support the Peer-to-peer Community of Best Practice, one of the initiatives under the Global School Meals Coalition (SMC) which aims to share evidence, policy and programme standards, best practices, lessons learned and successes from national and local contexts to strengthen school meal programmes around the world.
The event will provide the opportunity to present the global hub to the public and members of the SMC as the main platform for the peer-to-peer exchange and as a tool for other potential initiatives under the Coalition.
The webinar will be held in English, and live interpretation to French and Spanish will be available.
